October Update
Congratulations to Our New Team Executive Committee
Much thanks to our outgoing volunteers last year. Our group of parent volunteers run the team, manage fundraising, and is in charge making most of the decisions. Last year, they were able to bring in Olympic Bronze Medalist, Ariel Torres Gutierrez to run a high performance seminar. This year plans are in the works to continue our annual growth.
A big shout out to last year’s ExCom members, Kim Vu, Jessica Lao, Ann Truong, Marcel DeJesus/Jinzi Huang, and Joseph Lyn.
Members of the 2024/2025 ExCom are:
President: Stephanie Chan
Treasurer: Ann Truong
Secretary: Ann Fan
Team Manager: Jessica Lao
Event Manager: Kim Vu and Joseph Lyn
Markham City Open Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to help with our major fundraising event. The Markham City Open (MCO) is a premier Karate and Kobudo tournament in Markham, Ontario that attracts athletes from US and Canada. MCO is not only an official Karate Ontario recreational points event. It is also now a part of the Amateur Karate Circuit that includes events in Markham, North York, Brampton, and Montreal.
We are seeking volunteers to help with setup, scorekeeping, meet and greet, food prep, etc… If interested, please send Sensei an email.
New Kyu (Under Black) Belt Testing Procedure
For the fall of 2024, we will be adopting a new procedure. Rather than a test week, there will be an evaluation week. Testing will only be on a Saturday in the afternoon for one day only. Our first testing procedure of the season starts on October 21 - 24 with an evaluation week. Those who qualify for testing for complete an application which can be found at noxdojo.com/portal. Testing day is on Saturday, October 26 at 12:30 PM. Those unable to make the testing date can reschedule for another time.
Updated Competition Page
We have begun updating the competition info page noxdojo.com/startcompeting as it was incomplete with details on expenses. This year’s project will be to review the Code of Conduct and make necessary improvements.
