Go Zac and Noah Go!
Zac and Noah at Commonwealth Games
Good luck to Zac and Noah as they compete at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England tomorrow morning at 4:00AM Toronto time. The end of the last and the beginning of the new season is blurred due to a continuous schedule of competitions throughout the summer. For the sake of this report, let’s call the Pan Ams as the finale of 2021/2022 and the Commonwealth as the beginning of 2022/2023.
What a finale 2021/2022 was for NOX Dojo. Our sport karate team (Club Seiryu) has had a successful season post CoVid. As one of the last countries to open up, Canada had a real uphill battle within the international circuit. At the Pan Ams, Canada had the 4th largest team with 83 athletes. We finished 6th overall with 13 medals while the USA took first place with 36. Our own Cadence contributed to the medal count with a Bronze.
This week, Canada has 33 athletes competing against big teams like England (88) and India (63). European powerhouses like Italy, Spain, and Turkey are not part of the Commonwealth but the combined team of the UK (England, Scotland, and Wales) is a whopping 167. Zac and Noah will have their work cut out for them.
The boys have been training throughout the summer. We are hoping it will be livestreamed on YouTube but waiting word from the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF). Either way, we know that you will both do your best and we are rooting for a podium finish. Most importantly, come back with some wonderful memories, new friends, and great lessons.
