December Update

Olympic Medalists Visit NOX Dojo

On November 16, 2024, Olympic bronze medalists Grace Lau (HK) and Ariel Torres Gutierrez (USA) visited NOX Dojo and led 40 athletes in an eye opening and intense kata seminar. The duo shared so much information, it will take weeks to digest. The door was opened to coaches from various clubs who benefitted from some of the tactics and strategies. Thank you to everyone who participated and made it happen.

Seeking Volunteers

NOX Dojo and the Club Seiryu parent committee are seeking volunteers to help with our tournament fundraiser. The Markham City Open is seeking volunteers to help as scorekeepers, mat setup, stage setup, athlete check in, and IT support. If you would like to help out and get a free lunch, please click on the link below and complete the form.

Testing Week

Evaluations begin on December 2 to December 5, 2024. For athletes who weren’t quite ready last month, they get a chance to test before the holiday break. Testing is on December 7 at 12:15PM.

Away Schedule

From December 11 - 17, 2024, Sensei will be away for some personal time. During this week, the dojo will be running on the away schedule. Thus, no 5:00PM class. All kids classes will be at 6:00PM.

Year End Party

Our year end pizza party is on Saturday, December 21 between 10:00AM and 12:00PM. It is a voluntary potluck. As with every year, there is no need to bring anything but if you do, please bring something of your own culture. This is a nice way to celebrate Markham’s gift of diversity. Also, in the past years, Sensei has appreciated the wonderful gifts he has received and feel blessed of all the love. This year however, he is asking to extend the love with a donation of non-perishable food items, feminine products, children’s toys, toothbrushes, or similar to share to the Markham Food Bank. A donation box will be at the front door start in December.

Holy Week Closure

The dojo will be closed for regular classes between December 23, 2024 and January January 5, 2025. The dojo will reopen on January 6, 2025.

Team Training Over Holy Week

Since Karate Canada’s National Championships this in April, there will be training days on Friday, December 27 and Friday, January 3. Athletes, please remember to book your preferred training time by December 12th, 2024.

No March Break Camp

To accommodate the early National Championships, our March Break Camp slot will be used for training our elite athletes heading to Richmond, BC in April. Summer Camps are still planned for July and August.
