Shodou (Japanese Calligraphy) can be practised as an academic pursuit or for its artistic merit. An academic study follows stringent guidelines for brushing each stroke. An artistic pursuit however permits more freedom of expression. Sean Wong is a shodan in Shodou Art with the Mugen Ryu samurai system under Master Shimada Mitsutoshi and is currently working towards a rank with the Chihara Shogei-Kai in Okinawa, Japan under Shimoji Megumi Sensei. He is an avid Bu Shodo Ka (martial arts calligrapher) and as a way to further develop his artistic expression, he will be creating a friendly Shodou Art Club in Markham for artists of all levels to meet and share.
