Sei…WHAT!?
When you first see Seitai being performed, it looks like a mix of Chiropractic medicine, Shiatsu, and Swedish Massage. The similarity stops at the imagery however since the concept of Seitai is to ease our life-force energy (known as Ki) by re-adjusting the body’s physiology. It is about finding harmony from within to promote good health. A movement that started in Japan in the 1920′s, led to a group called the Kenko Hojikai to inventory the knowledge and healing traditions of Japan’s holistic healers. Out if this study came the following conclusion:
1: to recognize that the body has its own pre-existing order, intimately connected to this life force, and to inventory the particularities of a healthy (ordered) body and
2: to elaborate precise techniques that would stimulate this inner life force in a way that forces the body to re-adjust itself from within, rather than using any external means.
Some time after the WWII, the term Seitai was used to mark this healing practice.
Master YAGI Meitetsu has been a Seitai practitioner for many years now and has started his practice this year at the Hombu to help his community. It seems that Seitai is the yin to Karate’s yang. What a unique marriage since both Seitai and Goju-Ryu Karate have a core philosophy to develop Ki energy.
For the first time in Canada, Master YAGI will be offering his knowledge in a series of public seminars in Orillia, Ontario. Hosted by the Canadian Meibukan Karate Association, the 3 day event is being held at the associations president’s dojo – Sensei Fabian Bolzonello. The seminars are open to everyone. Not just martial artists. So bring your friend or spouse too. The CMGA has mandated a 10 person requirement for each day so if you can only make one day, let see if we can all go together.
The cost is quite reasonable $50 per day per 2 hour seminar.
