Markham Meibukai had the privilege of hosting Sensei Johannes Wong of Australia in August. Sensei Johannes was here in Canada visiting family on a world wind trip after just competing and judging at the Sakomoto’s Ryuei-Ryu Tournament in Okinawa, Japan.
Sensei Johannes Wong is an 7th Dan, Okinawa Goju Kai and is under Masaaki Ikemiyagi in Okinawa, Japan. Wong Sensei is one of a few foreigners to have recieved a 6th dan from Dai Sensei himself. He is a recognized instructor of Meibukan Goju Ryu and also a master grade in Kobudo.
Talent in Karate within the Wong family in Australia carries on for generations. Daughter Lucy is an Australian Kata and Kobudo champion who also earned a 5th place in the recent international tournament in Okinawa. Grand-Daughter Amy also succeeds in Karate and Kobudo as a champion with a bronze medal place at the international level.
With such talent and dedication, it was with great gratitude that Andrew had a review of his Kata by the entire Aussie clan. Not only did he offer valuable tips but the Wong’s from Aussie taught Andrew 2 Kobudo Kata to prepare for at the World Karate and Kobudo Tournament in Okinawa proposed for next year.
We look forward to a continued long-lasting relationship with our international Meibukan family.
